17 Mar Technology Developed to Help Farmers Boost Crop Efficiency
The Hahn Estate Winery, located in California’s Santa Lucia Highlands, is utilizing a five-pound drone to collect data of their 1,100 acres of grapes and help the vineyard monitor the health, quality, and production of their operation. Following California’s fourth consecutive year of drought, Hahn teamed up with PrecisionHawk of Raleigh, N.C. and Verizon to synthesize and analyze their crop’s data. The data from PrecisionHawk’s drone infers canopy cover and indication of crop vigor, coupled with Verzion’s ground sensors monitoring temperature and soil moisture. This technology is helping farmers and growers to keep a closer eye on their crops while utilizing less time and enhancing productivity.

Infrared images taken by the drones are helping farmers to better understand just exactly what is happening in their fields.
